Several locals attend farmer-banker banquet
Those who attended the farmer-banker banquet at Marshal last Saturday from this part of the county were: Ben Borson, Arthur Nelson, T.K. Thompson, Hon. J.B. Gislason, B.B. Gislason, M.F. Ahern, M.J. Moorse, H.J. Tillemans, O.E. Rye, and G.B. Bjornson.
Williamson dies at home of son at 105 years old
Valgerdur Jonsdottir Williamson, aged 105 years, died at the home of her son, John Williamson, in Minneota, on Wednesday of this week. For the last two years, she had been bedfast most of the time. The deceased lost her husband in the old country and moved to America with her son, John, in 1882.
Krohling takes over managing Pacific Hotel
Rex Krohling is now running the Pacific Hotel, having rented the establishment from the owners. Mr. Krohling will not open the dining room, but will sell lodging only. There are 20 clean, well-heated rooms and every hotel facility except meals.
Myhres honored with surprise party at church
The members of the Norwegian Lutheran congregation gave a surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. T.N. Myhre last Sunday at the English Lutheran Church in Minneota. There were about 200 guests present. There was no specific occasion for the party except members of the congregation felt it was time Mr. Myhre was recognized for being choir master for the past 33 years.

Santa gives 800 bags of candy & balloons
Santa Claus was a busy individual when he visited Minneota last Saturday afternoon. During the short time he was here, Santa distributed more than 800 bags of candy and balloons to youngsters who came to see him. The children were kept on the go too, in addition to visiting Santa. They packed the Joy Theatre for two free movies, and were also given free ice cream cones at the Minneota Dairy Store. Santa did more than just hand out candy during his trip here. He also visited youngsters that were unable to see him because of illness.
News not delivered on time this week due to train delay
Because of the delayed train service some of the news written by correspondents arrived too late for this issue, but will be printed next week. Correspondents and advertisers are asked to have their material in early next week as the Mascot will again go to press early due to the holiday.
Firm entertains workers, families at Christmas party
Probably the largest "family party" in Minneota's history was staged here last Thursday evening when A.B. Tracy Company, a local produce firm, entertained employees and their families at a turkey and ham dinner at the Legion Hall. Over 100 members of the "family" enjoyed the dinner and won prizes of cash, turkeys and a goose and a duck given by the firm. The dinner was prepared and served by the staff of Carl's Cafe and the turkeys and hams were roasted by the Haas Bakery, which donated this service.
Fairway Foods offers Christmas specials
Johnson and Company Fairway Foods offered several specials for Christmas at its store. A 48-oz. tin of Golden Treat grapefruit juice was 19 cents, an 18-oz. can of V-8 Vegetable Cocktail was 15 cents, three cans of tomato soup was 29 cents, two cans of cream corn was 29 cents, a 20-oz. can of Golden Treat peas was 10 cents, and a one-pound bag of roast coffee was 47 cents.

Firemen called for Jeremiason farm fire
Minneota fire fighters were called to the Arthur Jeremiason farm home south of Minneota last Thursday morning around 7:45 a.m. for a blaze in the lot of the hog house. Little damage was done by the blaze.
Tax service set to open here Jan. 2
Announcement is made this week that Henry Borson and Mrs. Phyllis Donaldson will be opening the Borson-Donaldson Tax Service here on Jan. 2. The business is to be located at 215 North Jefferson Street and, as the name implies, is to deal in tax matters or the public.
Mrs. Finnegan given prizes by Pillsbury representative
Mrs. John Finnegan of Minneota, who last week was announced as one of 100 finalists for this year's Pillsbury Bakeoff, received a check for $100, a General Electric range and a mixer by Pillsbury district representative Gary Raasch. Mrs. Finnegan will compete on Feb. 26 in Beverly Hills, California. First prize is $5,000.

School board approves gym use for donkey ball
The December school board meeting was held on Dec. 18. During the Open Forum, Denise Anderson requested permission to use the gym for a donkey basketball game, with a date yet to be determined. This would be used for a fundraiser to purchase warmups for the younger kids. The board approved the request. It was also noted at the meeting by Principal Bruce Johnson that the Minneota Student Council collected 1,157 items for the Community Food Shelf.
Church women donate items for area people
The Hope Lutheran Church Women have helped spread Christmas cheer in Lyon County through generous donations this holiday season. The HLCW works through the Community Health Services, and Rita Dovre, whose contacts with the people and the church have made it possible to meet the needs of those who really need Christmas cheer. The gifts included such things as kitchen gadgets, towels, art supplies, children's gifts, basic hygiene needs, candy, and homemade quilts.
Manor residents help wrap Christmas gifts
Residents of the Minneota Manor Health Care Center provided some valuable help for the upcoming holiday season by wrapping gifts that will be distributed through the Toys for Tots program. Sponsored by the Ghent-Minneota-Taunton Women of today, the program provides toys, games, food and clothing for many families in the area.
