No mail service Thursday in observance of Carter’s death

The U.S Postal Service will close all offices and not deliver mail on Thursday, Jan. 9, in observance of a national day of mourning that was declared by President Joe Biden in honor of former President Jimmy Carter.
Instead, the Mascot will be mailed and delivered to local drop-off sites a day earlier than normal, arriving on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Newspapers will also be available for purchase at the Mascot office from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday.
Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States, died at the age of 100 on Dec. 29.
Biden's executive order closes federal offices and excuses all federal employees from duty. The day is treated like a federal holiday. Post offices will reopen Friday, Jan. 10, and mail delivery will resume as normal.
Flags are being flown at half-staff nationwide for 30 days.
