Gift helps support new Hospice House

Prairie Home Hospice has received a special gift to help establish the McLaughlin Hospice House in Marshall. The gift honors D.C. “Pat” McFarland and his support for Prairie Home Hospice.

The Southwest Initiative Foundation hosts the Prairie Home Hospice Marshall Endowment Fund. It was established by D.C. “Pat” McFarland to provide continued support for the mission of Prairie Home Hospice and the local community.

The Southwest Initiative Foundation recently approved granting $25,000 from the endowment to support the Capital Campaign for the new McLaughlin Hospice.

The main living and dining areas at the new McLaughlin House will be designated in his honor. A plaque will be displayed acknowledging his generosity and commitment to Prairie Home Hospice.

“This gift is special in so many ways,” said Pat Mellenthin, Prairie Home Hospice CEO.

“Through the endowment that Pat set up on our behalf through the Southwest Initiative Foundation, his commitment to Prairie Home Hospice and the work we do in the community lives on.”

“A dedication in his honor at the new hospice house allows us an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment that continues even today, thanks to the generosity of the endowment he established through the Southwest Initiative Foundation.”

According to Mellenthin, the capital campaign to support the establishment of McLaughlin Hospice House continues to go well. “We look forward to completing the project,” said Mellenthin.

“We’re very anxious to open our doors to those seeking a residential hospice house in the community.”

“While the project has taken longer than expected, we know once it’s complete, we’ll have a very comfortable and functional hospice house to offer to those who will seek comfort there.”
