Van Keulen re-elected school board chair

Four members were sworn into the Minneota School Board Monday night during the annual organizational meeting. Re-elected were Dawn Van Keulen and Jeff Buysse and the new members are Tom Skorczewski and Abby Thostenson.

The board re-elected Dawn Van Keulen as chairman of the board with Dan Longtin vice chairman, and re-elected Jeff Buysse clerk and Terri Myhre treasurer. They set the board compensations at $75 per meeting; $75 for a half day; $150 for a full day (workshops, etc.); $600 more for the board chair and $350 more for the clerk.

It all stayed the same from last year. The board also discussed hallway lighting at the school.

“Some of the lights from the 2016 project in hallway by the gym have been going out. We’ve been trying to figure out a solution to this. A different fixture will be put in and installed at no costs,” said Supt. Dan Deitte.

IN OTHER action the board:

•Re-approved Kaley Buysse’s Family Medical Leave.

•Approved a lane change for Nicole Johnston and for Sara Boerboom. Both earned master’s degrees.

•Approved Title I/Technology Teacher Renae Hanson’s Medical Leave from Jan. 2 to Feb. 1, 2019.

•Set committee assignments for board members for the coming year. With two members going off the board and two new members, the various committee assignments had to be re-shuffled.

•Named the Minneota Mascot the legal newspaper for the coming year.

•Authorized Superintendent Dan Deitte to invest funds and approve collateral from financial institutions and approve the Liquid Asset Fund for Investment Purposes.

•The State Bank of Taunton and the Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund were named the official depository.

•Set the regular board meeting for 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 15 in the conference room. The board will meet on the third Tuesday of each month.
