THE CHIEF'S VIEW

Have you talked to your kids yet about driver's safety around the school? Have you changed the time or location that you drop your kids off at the school so that you are not part of the problem?
With over 600 students in the school and approximately 80 staff members, the streets around the school can get congested. This situation becomes dangerous when parents and students are rushing to get to school because they are running late. I can’t stress this point enough, but being tardy is far better than a vehicle collision or hitting a kid crossing the street.
Another thing to keep in mind is the school buses. I tell drivers that if they see a school bus, they should find another route because school buses make frequent stops and there are always kids around them. Drivers should treat school buses as though they are radioactive. Avoid them if possible or stay as far away from them as you can.
These are very simple and effective suggestions that can save you a lot of money, grief, and perhaps someone’s life. Be the driver you would want on the road when it is your child crossing the street.
