Voit to attend Boys State in June

Joe Voit, a junior at Minneota High School, is the Taunton American Legion Post 604’s selection to this year’s Boys State.
Voit, the son of John Voit and Stacey Bosveld, was announced recently by Post Commander Francis Rabaey and Post Boys State Chairman David Hennen as the recipient of the 74th annual American Legion Boys State to be held June 11-17 on the campus of St. John’s University in Collegeville.
“David came into school and talked to me about Boys State,” said Voit. “After he told me a little about it, I told him I would be glad to go. It sounds interesting and I think I will really enjoy it.”
Legion Boys State is a practical learning experience in local and state government. Those attending are divided into different cities and students then campaign and run for various local and state offices to learn more about how our government runs. The feedback from those who have attended in past years has been positive.
Boys State was first held in Minnesota in 1949 with 169 boys attending at the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul Campus.
Scholars to Boys State must be juniors in high school. Recipients are chosen through the outstanding qualifications set forth in the selection process, such as scholastic achievement, arts and community involvement.
