Totus Tuus celebrated locally
St. Edward's Church of Minneota and St. Eloi Church of Ghent celebrated Totus Tuus last week in Minneota.
For one week each summer, pre-registered parishes of Area Faith Communities (AFC) are assigned four college-aged young adults (two males, two female) who stay with local families. They enjoy a meal with a different family each night while spending time with youths in grades 1-6 and 7-12 during day and evening programs, respectively.
Because Totus Tuus is a parish/AFC event, families are invited to a parish potluck meal mid-week for food and fellowship and to get a chance to visit with the missionaries and other families.
There are games, skits, prayer, talks and classes proclaiming the Gospel and teaching the Catholic faith and celebrating the Sacraments from the active Christian witness of the missionaries and everyone involved with the parishes.
At the conclusion of the week, the younger kids have a highly anticipated water balloon toss and water fight. They also get to choose a missionary that they "wrap" to a tree to get a chance to douse them with water. The kids then rested with a cool treat on the above-90 degree day.
Totus Tuus, Latin for 'Totally Yours", is the motto from St. Louis de Monfort that St. Pope Paul II lived out about giving ourselves entirely to Jesus through the hands of his Immaculate Mother.
