Lyon County Relay for Life set for Aug. 17

The annual Lyon County Relay for Life will be held in conjunction with the Sounds of Summer on Thursday, Aug. 17 in the Schwan's Parking lot in Marshall.
This year's Relay for Life will be held from 5-10 p.m. Silent auction donations are being accepted.
There are many things planned from 5-7 p.m., including survivor registration, luminaria on sale, silent auction, the third annual chili cookoff in honor of Jim Wohnoutka, Brau Brothers beer and soda samples, and music and live trivia by Push Play Entertainment.
Honorary survivor Jess Moriarty of Minneota will be among those speaking at the opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. That will be followed by a live auction and a survivor lap.
The closing ceremonies begin at dusk and will include a candlelit lap which follows this year's theme "Every Step Brings Hope." There will be also be a luminaria track and memory table throughout the night.
Local vendors on hand will be Scotty Biggs, Chicken Connection, Sweet Kettle Madness, and Squeeze the Stuffins.
All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Survivors are encouraged to register prior to the event in order to receive their purple shirt in advance. There will be a limited number of shirts available at the event.
