Penelope Fratelli, who goes by “Penelope Popper” entertained fair-goers with this 15-foot sunflower costume as she paraded around the fairgrounds on stilts.

American Legion Post 113 performed a mock military funeral for those in attendance during “A Salute to our Veterans” in the Hoop Barn during the Lyon County Fair on Saturday in Marshall.

The Minneota Ribbon Wranglers 4-H group had one of the most impressive booths at the Lyon County Fair.

Heidi Fier of Taunton, the Lyon County Veterans Service Officer, was selected as the 2023 Lyon County Outstanding Veteran in the Hoop Barn on Saturday. Speaking to those in attendance after receiving the award, Fier said “It’s an honor to continue to work with veterans.” Fier is a retired 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

These two kids seem to be telling one another to “hold on tight” as they enjoy a ride on the carousel at the fair on Saturday.

Rita Engels of Ghent received first place at the fair for her cactus plant.

Denny Rafson of Marshall is congratulated by emcee Jaen Weilage after he was chosen as one of the Outstanding Senior Citizens of Lyon County. Rafson, a retired electrician, has been a longtime member of the Marshall Mason’s Club, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and a longtime volunteer with the Lyon County Historical Museum. Angie Coudron was the other recipient of the 2023 Outstanding Senior Citizen. She was unable to attend the ceremony.

A large number of participants at the Rolle Bolle tournament during the Lyon County Fair enjoyed playing on a sun-splashed day.
