Gorton excited at Donaldson’s admission to MLB video game

Peter Gorton, who will be coming to Minneota on Saturday, April 29 to talk about legendary pitcher John Donaldson, who narrowly missed induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021, was elated to learn that MLB The Show will feature Donaldson among the greatest Negro League players in a new game mode called "Storylines."
"I've been working on it for years," said Gorton. "It is a great thing. Very exciting."
Gorton, a freelance journalist from the Twin Cities area, will speak in the Opera Hall at 3 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted. After expenses, any proceeds will go to the Society of the Preservation of Minneota's Heritage to assist in maintaining the historic building.
Donaldson, a hard-throwing, left-handed pitcher, took the mound for the Minneota semi-pro team twice in 1923. He played two years with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues, but left because he was making much more money barnstorming around the United States and Canada due to his increasing popularity back then. Leaving the Negro Leagues is also one reason why his legacy had slipped under the cracks until Gorton spent many years restoring it.
Gorton's relentless work in getting Donaldson his due diligence is a heartwarming story that many people will enjoy hearing.
Although no photos of Gorton pitching in Minneota have been discovered, there are several photos, as well as a 39-second video of him pitching in other Minnesota communities.
