Dr. Buysse retires; Dr. Rohe purchases Minneota Vet Clinic

There's a changing of the guards at the Minneota Vet Clinic as Dr. Lynn Buysse announced her retirement after 27 years. Dr. Laura Rohe officially took over the practice on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
"I really loved working for generations of people," said Dr. Buysse. "I will really miss the people and helping them with their animals. I will miss my staff, too. All of my staff over the years was great to work with. They all did such a good job and got along well together."
After starting out working in an Equine Hospital in the Twin Cities and then for nine months at a veterinary clinic in Marshall, Dr. Buysse worked at the Tri-County Veterinary Clinic in Taunton for five years before going into business for herself and building the Minneota Vet Clinic on the east edge of Minneota along Highway 68 in 1997.
"We haven't made a lot of changes at the clinic over the years," said Dr. Buysse. "We used to see 80 percent large animals and 20 percent small animals. Now it's the opposite and we see 80 percent small animals and 20 percent large animal. Other than that, everything has pretty much stayed the same."
Dr. Rohe, a Sleepy Eye native and graduate of the Iowa State Veterinary School, joined the staff at Minneota Vet Clinic as an associate on May 16, 2022 with the understanding that she would one day take over the clinic. She even worked at the clinic here one summer while in college.
Dr. Buysse's daughter, Alaine, a veterinarian in Fairfax, recently gave birth to a boy, and Dr. Buysse has been moonlighting there while her daughter is on maternity leave. Dr. Rohe was the maid of honor at Alaine's wedding.
"I talked to Laura about buying the clinic when she became an associate and now with the birth of my first grandchild and everything going on, I said that we should do this by the end of the year," said Dr. Buysse "I am very comfortable and not nervous about turning over the reins to Laura. She is a wonderful vet and we have the same philosophy in that we do the best we can for people and their animals. "Dr. Buysse plans to spend her spare time with her family, including her new grandson.
"I want to spend more time at the lake, too," she said. "Being a vet requires a lot of commitment and time and now I will be able to enjoy some of the things I wasn't able to do as much as I would have liked. Still, I will miss helping people with their animals. Once a vet, always a vet."
Dr. Rohe is grateful of her time working with Dr. Buysse and the staff at Minneota Vet Clinic.
"I have learned so much from Lynn about how to keep your clients your top priority," she said. "I feel I've gotten to know many of them so well already."
Dr. Rohe is admittedly a little nervous and a little excited about taking over the business.
"Anyone in my position would be a little nervous," she said. "But I'm excited for the opportunity and everything is going to stay pretty much the same as it has since I started working here."
Dr. Rohe was married to her husband, Ross, last February. They live in Minneota with their dog, Ollie.
