Candidates named for Bug Days royalty

Four young ladies were announced as candidates for the 2022-23 Boxelder Bug Days.
This year's candidates are Dakoda Hennen, the daughter and Brandon and Angie Hennen (sponsored by AgPlus); Brooke DeSmet, the daughter of Jason and Michelle DeSmet (sponsored by Brad's Market); Shelby Neyens, the daughter of Tim and Jen Neyens (sponsored by Gislason's Ace Hardware); and Faith Myhre, the daughter of Jason and Tina Myhre (sponsored by Jason Myhre Horseshoeing and Trimming Services).
The first portion of the judging process was held recently at the Minneota Community Center in the Minneota City Office building. Each candidate gave a speech to front of three out-of-town judges about why they feel they would be a good candidate to represent Minneota as Boxelder Bug Days royalty.
Judges also conducted personal interviews with the four candidates, who also presented personal posters that will be displayed in downtown businesses until Boxelder Bug Days which runs from Sept. 9-11.
Current Boxelder Bug Days royalty, Queen Kaitlyn Ludwikowski, First Princess Kate Hennen, and Second Princess Sylvia Rabaey, assisted the 2022-23 candidates in many ways.
"The current royalty joined the candidates to give advice, boost their confidence, and put them at ease before and during the judging," said Bug Days committee member Dawn Vlaminck. "Many of the girls mentioned in their speeches that becoming more involved in the community would be one benefit of becoming Boxelder Bug Days royalty. They also mentioned that as little girls, they looked up to the royalty."
The queen coronation is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10.
