The bugs are on their way!

Boxelder Bug Days committee members have been working throughout the year to bring another quality family-friendly event this year to Minneota.
There is a myriad of events planned for Sept. 8-10 this year. We will focus on a few of the many events in this article and will detail a few others next week. A complete list of events appears on Page 4.

Family Fun 5k
The Family Fun 5k is returning by popular demand for a second year. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Bethel Fellowship Church parking lot. Those participating can enjoy a caramel roll and coffee while visiting with a few of the Southwest Minnesota State University basketball players before heading out on this family-friendly course.
This year's event is also pet-friendly, so participants can bring their dog along with them as they travel along the course.
A recommended donation of $10 gets you a can koozie, a beverage and a treat at each of the five activity stops, as well as a chance to win prizes at the finish line. All ages are encouraged to participate.
Some of the many prizes include a flat-top griddle, 2 mini solo stoves, speakers, headphones, bicycles, and scooters for the kids, and gift certificates to local businesses. This is not a timed event. It features fun stops and activities along the course. Stations will be set up and feature games and treats for the kids and adult beverages for those 21-and-over (IDs will be required at registration for a wristband that allows you to obtain a beverage along the route.

25th annual Chili Cook-off
The Johnny Tillemans Chili Cook-off is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The event has moved locations and will now be held in Bug Square (in the Grass Square north of the One More Time Thrift Store).
There is no pre-registration required. Just show up at sunrise and begin cooking. Bring your own ingredients, utensils and cooking stove.
Judging begins at 11 a.m. and public tasting begins at 11:30 a.m. All proceeds benefit Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care.
Prizes will be awarded for Judge's Choice, People's Choice, and for Best Table Decoration.

Craft & Vendor Show
The annual Craft & Vendor Fair will again be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the west parking lot of Veterans Park along First Street.

The Ribbon Wranglers 4-H group will be serving a barbecue meal beginning at 11 a.m. at the Craft & Vendor Fair.

Musical entertainment
There will be plenty of musical entertainment over the three days, including newcomers Up South and the Wapsi River Ramblers. Also appearing will be Ali Gray, Kayla Daniels, Avenger Joe and Kindred Spirits.

Parades
The Kiddie Parade will be held at 11 a.m. in the business district on Saturday and the Grande Parade begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
