Boxelder Bug Days is 3 days of family fun

Festivities begin Sept. 8

Boxelder Bug Days is soon upon us and promises to be one of the best-ever with activities happening all over town on Sept 8-10.
Besides the usual downtown Bug Square activities that includes food stands, inflatables, raffles, activities, kiddie parade, contests and more, there is also a three-person scramble at Countryside Golf Club on the east side of Minneota, the Silver Spur Saddle Club's Barrel Racing on the north side of town, a craft and vendor show at Veterans Park, Bill Holm tributes at St. Paul's Evangelical Church and the Opera Hall, and much more.
The queen coronation will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the main stage in Bug Square.
Also new this year is the Vintage Tractor Show. Anyone is welcome to bring a vintage tractor to the City Hall parking lot along First Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. No registration is required.
Check out the complete list of Boxelder Bug Days events in an ad on Page 8.
The second annual Fun Run is a non-competitive and non-timed event for all ages on Saturday, Sept. 9. It features a 5k walk or run that includes five sponsored stops along the route, each with a fun activity for a family, including a pet. A freshly-baked caramel roll and coffee will be served prior to the race, compliments of Kevin Anundson State Farm Insurance. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. in the Bethel Fellowship Church parking lot. The Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. Included in your suggested $10 donation are beverages, snacks, a can koozie, and a chance to win some nice prizes in a drawing at the conclusion around 10 a.m. The 25th annual Johnny Tillemans Memorial Chili Cookoff will move its location this year from the City Hall parking lot to Bug Square located in a grass square behind the One More Time Thrift Store. Samples of the various chili recipes will be sold and served to the public with proceeds benefitting Prairie Home Hospice and Community Care.
Among events being held on Sunday, Sept. 10, the Minneota Fire Department's annual pancake breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. at the Fire Hall, a Bloody Mary Bar at City Hall Bar & Grill will be from 8-11 a.m., a Community Worship Service at Bug Square will begin at 10 a.m., a Friends of the Library Pie Sale and a Minneota Area Mission Trip meal will both begin at 11 a.m.; the Grande Parade starts at 1 p.m., and a Royalty Meet-and-Greet in Bug Square will also be right after the parade with kids having a chance to have their photo taken with the outgoing and incoming Boxelder Bug Days royalty. There will also be face painting and goodie bags.
The Golf Ball Roll will begin at 3 p.m. with a chance to win cash prizes.
