75 Years Ago-October 22, 1943
Five injured here in past two weeks
Five farmers were injured in this community in the past two weeks. None of the accidents were fatal, but two of the farmers are in a serious condition. A son of John Arends got his hand caught in the rollers of a corn picker on Saturday, Oct. 9. On Monday, Oct. 11; Earnest Loyson of Ghent got his hand caught in a grain elevator; Ed Verstraete of Ghent got his hand caught in a corn picker on Friday, Oct. 15. These injuries were not very serious. On Oct. 15 Knute Skaar of Nordland township was severely injured when his coat was caught in the starting lever of his tractor and he was thrown under the wheel of the moving tractor; Joe DeLanghe of Island Lake fell from his nine foot haymow and landed on his back which resulted in a dislocation of the lumbar spine on Sunday, Oct. 17. Island Lake man falls Joe Delang had the misfortune of falling down from the upstairs in the barn and got his back hurt last Sunday. Morris Locy is helping with the work.
DeVlaeminck-Timmerman
Miss Bertha Timmerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gaston Timmerman, and George DeVlaeminck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie DeVlaeminck of Minneota were married on Tuesday morning, Sept. 28. Newman-Thompson Miss Viola Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Thompson of Lynd and Ernest Newman, son of Mrs. Anna Newman of Cottonwood, were united in marriage on Friday, Oct. 15.
Hendrickson-Wells
Miss Gladys Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wells of Redwood Falls, and Melvin Hendrickson, son of Mrs. Emil Hendrickson of Marshall were married Sunday Oct. 10.
50 Years Ago-October 24, 1968
Scout nominated for Report to the Nation
Richard Josephson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Josephson of Minneota, has been nominated for Report to the Nation. If he now wins in sectional competition against 16 other boys, he will represent Region 10 (eight states) and spend one week in Washington with the President of the United State. Twelve Boy Scouts are selected each year to give the president their story of the region in scouting they represent. They represent all 50 states.
Married 50 years
Mr. and Mrs. Torkel Esping of rural Minneota observed their 50th wedding anniversary and were honored guests at an open house last Sunday afternoon at Hope Lutheran church. Lot of water here The South Branch of the Yellow Medicine river, which flows in a gracious curve around this village, was almost level with the roadway of the “ball park bridge” in the north part of town. Most years in autumn the river is a mere trickle.

Presenting the “boss” with a bouquet
Beth DeSmet, eighth grade representative to the Student Council at St. Edward’s school and along with Chrissi Boulton, Student Council President, presented a bouquet of flowers to their “boss”, Carol DeSmet, who is Principal at the school for National Boss’ Week.
Newspaper contest has a winner
We sincerely thank everyone who stopped at the office this past Friday in recognition of National Newspaper Week. And the winner of the “Why I Love My Newspaper” contest is Sister Gregory Sanger. Tops in 9th grade math competition These 9th graders scored a first place in the Math League competition held on October 11 at Montevideo: Bridget Kamies, Pat Engels, Kayla Ahern, Joel Hagen, Brad Heggeseth, Paul DeCock, Jessica Jackson and Ted Bottelberghe. The team is coached by Mrs. Judy Hagen.
Makes good on his promise
Mr. Darren Gislason presents a check in the amount of $10 to the seventh grade class at St. Edward’s school. Darren had promised the class that if they tripled their class goal of $330 raised in St. Edward’s Marathon, he would donate the amount of $10 to reach the amount of $1000.
