75 Years Ago-April 23, 1943

Prices up on Saturday haircuts and shaves

In keeping with upward trends in barber shops of this area, the Minneota shops have raised their Saturday prices to 65 cents a haircut and 35 cents a shave. The old prices stand for weekdays.

Sets record

The Minneota branch of the Red Cross War Fund went over the top of its $800 quota by the highest percentage of any branch in the county. Minneota territory include the township of Westerheim, which contributed the largest amount of any township in the county, their receipts being about $310. Minneota’s total receipts reached $1,456.19, 82 per cent above its quota.

Hope establishes fund

The officers of Hope Lutheran church voted last week to establish a war service memorial fund. Voluntary contributions in memory of war dead of the congregation will be accepted, the proceeds to be used after the war at the discretion of the pastor and officials.

DeCock child buried

Funeral services for Patricia Ann DeCoick, three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeCock of Minneota, were held on Tuesday afternoon with interment in St. Edward’s cemetery. Patricia Ann had been ill for about ten days.

Conger-Gronner Nuptials

Miss Evelyn Gronner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gronner of Underwood, became the bride of Merwin Conger in a double ring ceremony April 17th at the home of Reverend and Mrs. Henry Albrecht, the Reverend Albrecht officiating.

Senior play

The Senior class will be staging a play in the evening of Saturday, May 4 called, “A view from the Bridge”.

RFE drive nets $121 in Minneota

The Radio Free Europe fund drive which was sponsored by the American Legion auxiliary last Friday, April 19th, reported the amount donated was $121.00. Mrs. Allan Josephson headed the drive and the solicitors were: Mesdames Leonard Richards, L. R. Christianson, Eric Heggeseth, Ray Brown and Jules DeKaiser.

Curfew regulations

Our fair city has been deluged with squealing tires and youth activities at all hours of the night, and that activity will now be stopped. Our curfew ordinance will, once again, be in force and will be acted upon.

Taunton Co-op elevator announces purchase of Minneota elevator

The Taunton Cooperative Elevator Board of Directors has announced the purchase of the AGP-LP facility at Minneota, MN. The transaction will take place in late May. The addition of these facilities will provide cooperative services in the Minneota area.

Speech students excel

These members of the Minneota Speech Team will be participating at the State Speech meet in Coon Rapids this week end. Nicolle Coequyt (first place), Kayla Ahern (first place) and Lauria Anderson placed second.

Singing and dancing by cast at musical

The high school Fine Arts Department is congratulated on the fine presentation of “Babes in Arms” that it gave this past week end at the school. The annual musical was very well received by the students who were able to attend the performances. A sign of Spring The opening of the baseball, softball, golf and track seasons are a sure sign of Spring. Although it was cold, Minneota played its first baseball game on Monday, and came out a 5-2 winner of Central Minnesota Christian.

Softball team sees first action of year

The Minneota/Canby softball team opened its season with a tournament at Granite Falls on Saturday. The M/C team had a great outing, winning 2 games (Lac qui Parle Valley and Granite Falls/Clarkfield) but losing to Chokio/Alberta.
