75 Years Ago-Oct. 9, 1942
MBA Host BB Club
The Minneota baseball club will be guests of the Minneota Businessmen’s association at their October dinner Monday evening. The local ball club covered themselves with an unusual amount of glory this year, winning the SW Minnesota League pennant and almost winning the regional championship. The business will acknowledge with pride and appreciation of the community in giving the dinner for the boys.
Minor injuries sustained
Alverse and Renil VanOverbeke and Joe E. Claeys turned over in the VanOverbeke car a few miles east of Minneota Tuesday evening. Minor injuries were sustained by the boys.
50 Years Ago-Oct. 12, 1967
Queen Susan’s Retinue
Susan Afdem, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Afdem, was named queen of the Minneota high school’s homecoming activities by the student body last week.
Rites held Oct. 3 for Van Overbeke
Funeral services for J. P. Van Overbeke we held Tuesday, Oct. 3 at St. Edward’s Catholic church in Minneota. Julius Peter Van Overbeke was born on August 21, 1901, at Ghent and died on September 30 at the age of 66 years. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jennen at Ghent on May 25, 1927 and to this union five children were born. He is survived by his wife, and 5 children: Mrs. Bernard Moorse (Helene) of Minneota, Mrs. Lawrence Christianson (Rose) of Farwell, Michael of Hutchinson, Mrs. Edward Spartz (Marjorie) of Northfield and Mrs. Vincent Gebes (Patricia) of Chicago, IL.
Married 50 years
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pesek observed their 50th wedding anniversary and were feted at an open house held in parlors of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic church at Taunton.

Senior candidates for Homecoming
Homecoming will be celebrated at the high school the week of October 19-23, and these seniors have been selected as candidates for King and Queen: Jenny Kloos, Michelle Myrvik, Denise Hennen, Missy Brewers, Jody Breyfogle, Jon Konold, Jayme Sussner, Chuck Vlaminck, Scott VanKeulen and Tolif Hunt.
FLA/FHA starts Chapter for Junior High
The Minneota FLA/FHA has a new Junior High Chapter. Newly elected officers of the newly formed junior high FLA/FHA group are: Nicki Coover (President), Laurie Anderson (Vice-President), Sheri Tillemans (Secretary), Jennifer Flood (Treasurer), Jessica Mead (Reporter) and Jessica Jackson (Recreational Leader).
Two former students are Huron royalty
Anthony (Tony) Esping, son of Tom and Becky Esping, and Boyd VanVooren, son of Pete and Gayle VanVooren, were elected by the Huron University (in Huron, South Dakota) student body to be Homecoming (Pow Wow Days) royalty. Also elected from the student body were James Altenburg of Armour, SD; Marsha Bader of Huron, SD; Laurie Bruening of Tulare, SD; and Michelle Sainsbury of Camp Crook, SD. The school held coronation on Thursday night, with Jim Altenburg chosen as the Chieftain and Laurie Bruening chosen as the Princess for the weekend festivities.
