75 Years Ago-July 10, 1942
New feed store here
Fred Denno of Marshall announces in this issue that he has opened a feed store in the building next to the Minneota Cooperative creamery. He will handle the Land O’Lakes line of stock and poultry feeds. Mr. Denno is the father of L. R. Denno, Minneota jeweler. He and his wife have moved into the upstairs apartment sat the F. C. Vanderwalker home.
Math Hennen Dies
Math Hennen, prominent Ghent citizen died at the Mayo center in Rochester Wednesday morning after a lengthy period of treatment.
Bee Sting Fatal
A sad death occurred at Dundee Tuesday of last week, when Mrs. Ed Citrowske died within an hour after a honey been stung her. Mrs. Citrowske is the former Lena Grengs of Taunton.
Girl Scouts rent Green Lake cottage
A large cottage at Green lake has been rented for the Minneota Girl Scouts’ annual camping trip July 19 to 25 announces the scout committee of the American Legion auxiliary. Mrs. Bernie Cole will head the camp staff as director and camp nurse; Miss Arlene Hanson is assistant director and lifeguard; Mrs. P. H. Geiwitz, committee chairman, will operate the kitchen. Fifteen girls have signed up so far. Mrs. Geiwitz asks that registration be completed by Wednesday, July 15. Each girl is to pay $3 upon enrollment, and to bring a cup of sugar. The cottage is comfortable and modern, with electric wiring and an inspected water supply.
50 Years Ago-July 13, 1967
Attending National FHA Convention
Susan Orsen, daughter of Mrs. Ethelyn Orsen of rural Minneota, and Miss Colette Gifford of Balaton, who is to take over duties this fall as home economics teacher at the local high school, left Sunday on the first lap of a trip that Miss Orsen was named president-elect of the state organization last March and she, with 35 other Minnesota FHAers are representing the state organization at the California meeting. They flew by jet from Minneapolis to the Los Angeles convention on Sunday and are to return home on Friday. The theme of the national meeting this year is: FHA — Opportunities Unlimited.
‘Late’ swimmers warned of laws regarding pools
School officials of the Minneota district and Police Officer Harold Klaassen this week warned area residents—particularly the younger people—of penalties involved fro those who break into the pool here for a “late” swim and asked parents of youths fro their cooperation in curbing a practice that may be starting here.
Minneota Juniors win three tilts in week
Outscoring the opposing clubs by 26 runs to 22 runs, Minneota’s Legion ball club, directed by Coach Dale Yost, racked up three victories during this past week and pushed their overall won-lost record to six and five.
25 Years Ago-July 8, 1992
Minneota’s new Superintendent
With the formal signing of the shared administrative agreement between Minneota and Canby last month, our District will be under a new leader this fall. H. Lyle Jones, the superintendent at Canby and Minneota, with former Minneota Superintendent Gerhard Meidt moving to the Administrative Assistant position.
A last day at work
Jim Atwood was treated to a retirement cake with fellow workers at the Minneota Public School last Thursday. Jim is retiring after 29 years and 8 months of custodial work at the school. As Jim said, “I have really enjoyed it. There have been many changes over the years but always something to look forward to.”
Work of a different sort
This trio, Jessica Myrvik, Amanda Kack and Ami Tillemans, was also hard at work in the Myrvik front yard last Thursday. The gals were building a wooden rabbit trap to catch the mother and three bunnies who have made their home under the Myrvik front step. We don’t know if the trap will work, but the gals were having a good time cooperating with each other.
4-H Club lends-a-hand
The Eidsvold Lucky Stars 4-H Club held two workdays at the Opera Hall as part of their “community pride project”. The youth put “O.H.” labels on the back of chairs in the hall. The 4-Hers were Jeanna Anderson, Chris Swedzinski, Rachel Rabaey, Brian Full and Nikki Anderson, helped by Leader Madeline Swedzinski and Mrs. Anita Anderson.
