Ask the Chief

Scrape first, then drive

Yes, you must scrape your windshield before driving .... Every winter I see people trying to drive while looking through a tiny opening on their windshield.

They are either running late and didn't have time to warm their vehicle up so as to defrost their windshield or they were too cold to properly clear their entire windshield of ice.

If this is you please take a few extra moments to do the job right. It’s dangerous to drive with little to no visibility through your windshield.

You should also scrape your mirrors and back window so that you can see all around your vehicle.

Save yourself the expense of a ticket and the embarrassment of having to scrape your windshield during a traffic stop ... because I will make you get out of your vehicle and do it before allowing you to drive away.
