In October of 1950, Elmer Christianson, left, and his wife, Edith, decided to tear down the plaster on a wall in the bedroom of their home on the corner of Madison and Second Street. Between the walls, they discovered an empty wine bottle that read: "Extra Fine Sherry Wine. When Empty Have Me Refilled at B.H. Clemenson's, Minneota, Minn." It was dated 1907. The Christianson's home was built in 1879 and first used as a village school, and also used on Sundays as a church by Norwegians and Icelanders. The Christianson’s bought the house in 1947. Clemenson's Saloon was one of several in the village in the early 1900s.
