St. Edward School Happenings

Mrs. Lois Spanton-Music & Art

Music: Grades 6/7/8 are beginning a guitar unit. The 4/5 graders are playing recorders. The 2nd and 3rd graders have been playing a variety of bells and percussion instruments. Grades K/1 even enjoyed playing in a Kitchen Band. So the music room has been a noisy place!

Art: All of the students have been busy doing some drawings using oil pastels and chalk pastels. These projects are hanging in our hallways, so feel free to come and visit!

Mrs. Jan Bot-Library

Happy New Year! I hope most of you are finding time to do some reading during these COLD days and evenings! Mrs. Bot is attempting to put out “new to us” books as well as weed through old books. It’s hard to get rid of books but this is a must to make room for new books. K-2 storytime began our Star of the North Picture Book Award nominees. We read, “I Will Not Eat You” by Adam Lehrhaupt. Thank you to Bryce Gorecki’s family for purchasing this book for our library. The students are excited about next week’s book which is just what Mrs. Bot was hoping for! Upper-grade students are looking for their required biography and non-fiction books they must read each quarter. Many students much prefer fiction but I do try to get interesting biographies and non-fiction books for our library. Reading one book is like eating ONE potato chip! ~Diane Duane

Mrs. Emily Hennen-PE

This week students will begin their floor hockey unit during PE. Students will start by learning the fundamental skills and terminology of floor hockey. They will then utilize these fundamental skills in a variety of games and activities.

Mrs. Margrit Rabaey-Spanish

We have been reviewing the words we worked on before Christmas break. In Kindergarten and first grade, we are working on animals. In 2nd and 3rd grade, we are working on our commands and questions. In 4th, 5th and 6th grade, we are learning food words. The 7th graders have just started again and we will work with verbs in Spanish. On Monday, we will talk about Los Tres Reyes, Epiphany, which is a big holiday in many Spanish speaking countries.
