Scholarship winners named
The Lincoln County Corn and Soybean Growers handed out their annual scholarships Tuesday and they went to Minneota seniors Nicole Sterzinger, Austin DeVlaeminck and Jordan Moorse.
“We’ve given out scholarships for several years,” said Fran Fier of the association. Funds were raised through a live auction at the recent annual meeting. Larger items, such as bags of grain, were auctioned off along with other items and $21,000 was earned for the scholarships.
Students are given a minimum of $500 each and some more depending on their activities in 4-H, FFA and other school and community projects. Grades also measure into the value of the scholarships.
“I believe we’ve come up with a pretty good and fair system of determining the scholarships,” Fier said.
What began as a family group between Fier and her husband has grown to the point where they are able to hand out considerable amounts of money to graduating students each year.
