‘A Conversation with Poets’ Oct. 11 at SMSU

Poets Maryann Corbett and Athena Kildegaard will join SMSU English Professor Dr. Susan McLean to present “A Conversation with Poets” on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in Charter Hall 201 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University.

Corbett lives in the Twin Cities and spent almost 35 years working for the Minnesota Legislature as an in-house writing teacher, editor and indexer. Her poetry has won such awards as the Willis Barnstone Translation Prize and the Richard Wilbur Award.

She is the author of four books of poetry and two chapbooks. Her most recent is Street View, which came out last month. Kildegaard is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Ventriloquy, and a fifth, Course, is due in March 2018.

Her poems have been read by Garrison Keillor, set to music and carved into pottery. She teaches at the University of Minnesota-Morris.

Mclean is an award-winning poet whose books include The Best Disguise, The Whetstone Misses the Knife and her translations of short Latin satirical poems by Martial, Selected Epigrams. She will serve as the moderator of the free event, which is part of SMSU’s 50th anniversary celebration.
