Volleyballers slide past Eagles
And bounce back the Vikings did.
As they did against Tracy, the Vikings started their first game slow.
But once they got over the hump they won the matches 25-17; 25-9 and 25-6.
“We started out a little slow, but really played our tempo of volleyball the last two sets,” said Coach Hayley Fruin.
Set Morgan Kockelman’s 37 assists got the system moving toward Lydia Sussner and the junior put down 17 kills and two blocks against the Eagles.
“We were in system frequently, so we were able to get everyone involved on offense,” Coach Fruin said.
As they’ve done all year, the Vikings’ team of servers came through. Abby Hennen, who led the tip with 15 digs, also was 14 of 14 at the serving line with Ellie Pesch 13 of 13 with a pair of aces.
Morgan Kockelman added to the serving team with a 12-12 night with two aces.
Also helping Abby Hennen in the back was sister Morgan with six digs and Lizzy Gillingham with five more.
Of course, the statistics were low because of LqPV’s inability to return the ball.
The Vikings are now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Camden Conference. They will host Dawson-Boyd Thursday night in a Homecoming clash.
They also will play this weekend in the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse series in the Twin Cities.
