Minneota's Abby Frie, left, and McKenna Yost go up for a block against Dawson-Boyd on Thursday night.

Vikings stymie Dawson-Boyd

Abby Hennen delivered 13 kills and Natalee Rolbiecki and Abby Frie had nine apiece as Minneota improved to 4-0 with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-13 sweep of Dawson-Boyd Thursday night in Minneota.
Minneota had not played a match in nine days, having Tuesday's match against Central Minnesota Christian in Prinsburg was postponed due to the early-season snowstorm. That match was made up on Friday.
Still, the Vikings showed little sign of rust in another dominating performance.
Minneota, coming off consecutive Class A state titles, has not lost a set yet this season in its four matches. The Vikings will not be able to defend their title due to the Minnesota State High School League eliminating the state tournament amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"The girls have definitely picked up right where they left off from last season and haven’t looked back," said Fruin. "This team is so balanced and everyone’s a veteran player; rare to have that."
Minneota was perfect in serving in 74 attempts, dropping in five aces against the Blackjacks. Rolbiecki was 20-for-20 with an ace.
Even the Vikings role players saw some playing time. RaeAnn Bruner and Megan Krog recorded their first varsity kills.
"We have a small team, numbers wise, but those that get an opportunity go in and always step up and hold their own on the court," Fruin remarked.
But as with most coaches, Fruin also said the team has room to grow and improve.
"I think we still have a few too many miscommunication errors," she said. "And on this team that shouldn't be happening. We've never been a team known for our serving or blocking, so I'd like to see each player grow and improve on that."
McKenzie Tolk had two ace serves, but no one else had more than one.
McKenna Yost finished with 18 set assists, while Ireland Stassen notched 14.
Frie also had two ace blocks. Stassen also had three kills, an ace block and two digs. Hennen led with 10 digs. Ellie Pesch had seven digs and Rolbiecki six.
