Tucker Thooft and Logan Sussner combine to sack the Lakeview quarterback.

Vikings smother Lakeview, 39-10

Boxelder Bug Days got off to an explosive start on the gridiron when the Minneota Vikings started the fireworks early and rolled up a 39-10 over Lakeview.

It was followed by  fireworks to be lit off shortly after the game.

Minneota took the opening kickoff and marched down the field behind a balanced running attack and crisp, accurate passes from quarterback Kade Lozinski.

The drive ended with Joseph Rybinski scoring on a short run to put the Vikings up, 6-0.

The Vikings jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on 12-yard jaunt by Blake Reiss.

They made it 32-0 at the half when they scored 20 points in the second quarter on three touchdowns — all on runs. Cole Sanow got two of them and AJ Josephson the other.

Minneota’s only second half touchdown came when Kade Lozinski passed to Alex Saltzer for four years and a score.

Minneota had 402 yards to 165 for Lakeview and running back Sanow ran 17 times of 135 yards. Quarterback Lozinski passed for 103 yards and the one touchdown.

When asked about his quarterback’s play, Coach Chad Johnston added, “He’s throwing the ball well. He’s hitting the right targets, doing the right things.  He made good decisions tonight, whether it was throwing the ball away or taking off running when needed.”

On defense, Logan Sussner led the way with a sack among his six tackles.

It wouldn't take long for the Vikings to strike again.

The Minneota Defense continued it's strong play and got the ball back for the offense to add some more fireworks to the scoreboard.

Alex Saltzer and Kade Lozinski connected on a long pass to set up a short Cole Sanow touchdown run.  The extra point would make the score 19-0 Minneota.

The second half saw the Vikings continue to dominate both sides of the ball, scoring a final touchdown on a pass from Lozinski to Saltzer to make the score 39-3.

Lakeview would add a late touchdown before the final gun to make the final score 39-10.  The balanced Vikings attack on both sides of the ball brings their record to 2-0 on the season.

"What will take us from being a good team to a great team, is being more physical.  Most of it's up front.  We've got young guys, and they did a better job this week than last week, and that's all we can ask from them."  said Coach Johnston.

Minneota will go on the road next week, to meet the 0-2 Knights of RTR.

Minneota will play at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Friday.
