Vikings sink SWMC, 86-61
Natalee Rolbiecki led a balanced scoring attack with 22 points, and Minneota stymied Southwest Minnesota Christian 86-61 Monday night at home. “Another good win for us against a good opponent,” said Minneota Coach Chad Johnston.
“We had a lot of balance with a lot of girls contributing.” The Vikings (21-1) dominated the boards with a 43-27 margin, Abby Rost leading the way with 10 rebounds.
Abby Hennen had 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for Minneota. Abby Rost also had 14 points and Morgan Hennen 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Jeren Rost notched eight points and six rebounds, while McKenna Yost had eight points and three rebounds.
Ireland Stassen contributed five points. “McKenna had a couple of key threes at key times,” Johnston noted. “Abby Rost dominated the boards, which allowed her to contribute some more points. Jeren Rost did some good things in the paint for us, and as a team we continue to run the floor well in transition.”
Minneota, which shot 48 percent from the field, jumped out to a quick 8-0 advantage and never relinquished the lead, despite getting into a bit of foul trouble. “
Our bench players did a wonderful job of giving us quality minutes,” Johnston said, “We never really lost momentum.” The Vikings held a 48-29 halftime lead.
Four players reached double digits for SWMC; Jazlynn Prins with 15 points, Maren Nerem 14, Ella Veldkamp 12 and Cybil Vander Top 10.
