Vikings nipped by Wolverines, 8-6

Minneota rapped out eight hits, but fell to MACCRAY 8-6 in a Camden Conference game Thursday at K.P. Kompelien Field in Minneota.
Keaton Jurrens had two hits to lead the Vikings' seven-hit attack. Minneota (1-2) has played well in all three games this season despite not getting outside until the first game of the season. The Vikings also began the season with just one player with varsity experience.
Minneota took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a single by Tyler Gronke, who came around to score on a double by Isaac Pohlen. Keaton Jurrens then plated Pohlen with the Vikingss' second run.
MACCRAY then scored a single run in the top of the fourth to cut the Minneota lead to 2-1, and then scored three more times in the fifth and once more in the sixth for a 5-2 lead.
The Vikings closed within 5-4 with a pair of runs in their half of the sixth inning. Jurrens rapped a leadoff double and scored on a one-out single by Ryan Meagher. Lacek's two-out single scored Meagher.
The Wolverines added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Ryan Dalager started on the hill for the Vikings. The right-hander gave up six hits over 6 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out seven. Peyton Gillund relieved and struck out the only batter he faced.
Dreyer Homan went the distance for the win for the Wolverines. He scattered seven hits and three walks, while striking out eight.

Senior left-hander Alex Call struck out 14 batters in five no-hit innings and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg held off a late Minneota rally for a 5-4 win last Tuesday (April 19) in Minneota.
The game was moved from Sunburg to Minneota because of wet grounds. KMS was still considered the home team.
The Fighting Saints built a 5-0 lead when Call, a Division I prospect, left the game. The Vikings were then able to string together several walks and a two-run double by Tyler Gronke off the KMS reliever, but were unable to push the tying run across.
The Vikings also hits from Isaac Pohlen and Jack Lacek over the final two innings.
Peyton Sheik got his first varsity start and allowed four hits and two earned runs over four innings. Peyton Gillund pitching the final two innings.
