Vikings honor seniors; upend RTR
On Senior Night, seniors Jacob Citterman and Jacob Hennen combined for 33 points as Minneota won for the eighth time in the last nine games with a 67-60 victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Friday in Minneota.
The Vikings (11-6) nipped RTR 56-54 in an earlier Camden Conference meeting in Tyler.
This time, Minneota grabbed a 37-26 point lead at halftime and then held off the Knights by sinking 10 of 14 free throws and shooing 44 percent from the field.
The teams combined for 19 three-pointers; 10 by RTR and nine by Minneota.
Citterman sank 6 of 12 shots, including 3 of 5 three-pointers, and finished with 17 points and three rebounds. Hennen amassed 16 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and five rebounds in a strong all-around game.
Cale Sorensen added 10 points for the Vikings, sinking 3 of 5 shot from the field and 3 of 4 free throws. He also had seven rebounds and three assists. Bishop Drietz, AJ Josephson, Max Rost and AJ Myhre chipped in five points apiece. Braeden Panka had four points.
Cody Wichmann had 17 points, Aiden Wichmann 14, Darrick Baartman 11 and Drew Werkman 10 for the Knights.
The Minneota seniors honored before the game were: Citterman, Hennen, Drietz, Myhre, Panka and Joey Rybinski.
The Minneota boys were seeded No, 4 and open Section 3A-North playoffs tonight (Thursday), hosting No 5.-sseded MACCRAY at 7 p.m.
