Vikings fall to Monte in 9 innings
Montevideo scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, then scored the winning run on an RBI single by Alyssa Sachs with no outs in the last of the ninth, handing Minneota/Canby a 12-11 loss on Monday in Montevideo.
The Vikings (2-1) trailed 7-2 before scoring nine times in the top of the fifth innings to grab an 11-7 lead before the Thunder Hawks rallied back. Mathea Jorgenson's single plated the tying run for Montevideo in the seventh inning.
Megan Anderson worked five innings of relief for the win, limiting the Vikings to six hits and two runs.
Lexi Sanow went 3-for-6 and drove in two runs to pace Minneota/Canby. Summer Hennen went 2-for-4 and also knocked in two runs. Tylee Groenhoff and Abby Rost also each drove in two runs. Audra Buysse and Ashlee Ann Cole each drove in one run.
Minneota/Canby finished with 10 hits off two Montevideo hurlers.

GAME 1 - Senior catcher Abby Hennen drove in four runs with a three-run homer and a bases-loaded walk, and stole five bases, as the Vikings opened the season with a rout in the first game of a Camden Conference doubleheader.
Ava Larson went 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI. She also pitched all five innings for the win, allowing six hits and an unearned run, while walking none and striking out six.
Audra Buysse had two hits, including a run-scoring double. Zahndra Bordewyk had two hits and drove in two runs.
Cadence Love took the loss for Dawson-Boyd.

GAME 2 - Abby Hennen again drove in four runs, giving her eight RBI in the doubleheader sweep. She clouted a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third inning.
A nine-run first inning sparked the Vikings, who then plated three more runs in the second and two in the third. Minneota/Canby stole 15 bases in the game.
McKenzie Tolk went the distance in the circle for the victory. She scattered seven hits, allowing two runs and two walks, while fanning six.
Lexi Sanow went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for the Vikings, who had nine hits. Audra Buysse also had two hits and stole three bases.
Alli Estling absorbed the loss.
