Vikings 2-1 at Browerville duals

Minneota knocked off Class A fifth-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 41-20 and finished 2-1 in the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville Duals on Friday in Browerville.

The Vikings, rated No. 10 in Class A, also turned back Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena 52-18, and put up a strong fight in a 33-23 loss to Foley, the No 7-ranked team in AA.

“The kids wrestled some very good teams tonight and made some big strides in the right direction,” said Coach Joel Skillings.

“They had a much better understanding of situations and circumstances before, during and afterwards."

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville, the top-ranked Class A team, wrestled two of the same teams that Minneota did and the results were very similar.

LPGE-Browerville topped BBE 39-26 and Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena by the identical score Minneota beat them; 52-18.

“The kids have a lot of things to be proud of and to build on,” said Skillings.

“(They are) a great group to work with.” Three Minnesota wrestlers were victorious in all three of their matches. Eric Carrasco, rated No. 8 in Class A at 113 pounds, notched two major decisions and a technical fall.

Teddy Pesch, No. 4 at 132, went 3-0 while winning twice at 138 and once at 132 pounds.

Winning twice was Zack Fier at 113 pounds, Kade Lozinski at 120 and 126, Justin Johnson at 160m Shawn Buysse at 170, Layne Lozinski at 195, Tyler Gronke at 220 and 285, and Jackson Esping at 220 and 285.
