Vikings 1-1 at Parkers Prairie triangular
Minneota, ranked No. 6 in Class A, received seven forfeits in a 56-24 victory over Osakis, but then fell to No. 7 Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale/Parkers Prairie in a triangular wrestling meet at Tuesday in Parkers Prairie.
The Vikings had one open weight in each match.
Against Osakis, the Vikings parlayed the forfeits and technical falls from Eric Carrasco at 132 pounds and Zack Fier at 145 pounds, plus a major decision by Alex DePestel at 160 pounds into the easy win.
Peyton Gillund at 120 pounds, Troy VanKeulen at 126, Jonah Gruenes at 170, Branden Johnson at 182, Hudson Scholten at 195, Jackson Esping at 220 and Barry”Trey” Gronke at 285 all won by forfeit for the Vikings.
Fier, who is ranked No. 10 at 138 pounds, pulled off a big win when he pinned Justin Koehn, who is ranked No. 7 at 152 pounds by the Guillotine Wrestling Publication, in only 21 seconds.
Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale/Parkers Prairie then won the next four matches by falls to clinch the match.
Jayden Gamrak of Minneota closed out the match with a 12-5 win at heavyweight.
Minneota led 3-0 at Adam DeVlaeminck won a decision at 106 pounds. Trailing 6-3, Eric Carrasco put the Vikings back in the lead with a pin at 126 pounds. BHVPP then won the next three matches for a 19-9 advantage before Fier and Gruenes' wins tied it 19-19.
