Viking girls take fifth at Marshall Challenge

Minneota won four of five matches and took fifth place at the Marshall Challenge Volleyball Tournament over the weekend.
The only loss was to Northfield, the No. 2-ranked team in Division 3A — also the only team they lost to all of last year — and that was also at the Marshall Challenge.
On Friday night they beat Burnsville 2-0 and St. Michael-Albertville, 2-0 to advance to the second round.
They lost to Northfield 2-0 but came back to beat River Falls, WI 2-1 and Champlin Park, 2-0.
The win over Champlin Park was also noteworthy since they beat Class 3A’s No. 9-ranked team.
Natalee Rolbiecki led the way for the Vikings with 52 total kills in the tournament while Abby Hennen added 36 and Abby Frie had 27.
Abby Hennen led in digs with 56 total while Morgan Hennen added 32 and Rolbiecki had 30. McKenna Yost led in set assists with 70 total while Ireland Stassen added 57.
Minneota coach Haley Fruin liked the play of her setters Ireland Stassen and McKenna Yost.
“They really improved throughout the day. We were kind of struggling at first, but by the last match I thought we were actually connecting with all of our players,” Fruin said.
She also felt, “Defensively we really improved and I thought Abby Hennen and Natalee Rolbiecki  had a great tournament in the front row.”
