Sussner MVP; Johnston is Coach of the Year

The coach who took Minneota to its second state championship, Chad Johnston, was named the South Camden Conference Coach of the Year. And senior Lydia Sussner was awarded Most Valuable Player honors.

Joining Sussner on the All-Conference team were: Morgan Hennen, Abby Hennen and Morgan Kockelman. Lizzy Gillingham was an honorable mention.

The North Coach of the Year was John Nolte of Lac qui Parle Valley. His senior Haley Wollschlager was named the Most Valuable player.

Joining them on the North All-Conference squad were Grace Hegland, Lindsay Kranz and Isabel Schirm.

Other members of the team were: South Yellow Medicine East: Madison Hinz, Mackenzie Dyrdahl and Meeghen Dahlager. Lakeview: Kiana Imes and Aubrey Kaczmarek. Russell-Tyler-Ruthton: Brooke Thomsen. Canby: Kayelee Johnston.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton: Samantha Edwards. Honorable Mentions: Sierra Plotz, Lakeview; Sarah Hanson, Canby; Cassidy Smith, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Haley Muenchow, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

North Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg: Katie Krieger, Madison Rohner. Central Minnesota Christian: Colette Duininck and Reegan Duininck.

MACCRAY: Piper Asche. Dawson-Boyd: Alex Sather and Avery Bartunek.

Renville County West: Lauren Wulf. Honorable Mention: Sidney Gerdes, Lac qui Parle Valley; Maret Gjerde, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg; Elli Stoel, Central Minnesota Christian; Sage Mecker, MACCRAY; Mary Bothun, Dawson-Boyd and Pamela Winzenburg, Renville County West.

In addition to the all-conference MVP honor, Sussner was named to the Minnesota Class A All-State Team; she was a finalist for Miss Minnesota Basketball and she was named to the Minnesota Class A All-Tournament team after helping her team win the Minnesota Class A State Championship.

Johnston has coached both of Minneota’s two state championship teams and he also has a second place honor under his belt.

The Vikings went 30-1 this year, won the Camden Conference Championship with a win over Lac qui Parle Valley; then won the Section 3A North Crown, the Section 3A Championship and the state championship.
