Schuelke's 3 hits; defensive gems spark Vikings to win
Josh Schuelke went 3-for-3 and drove in a run as Minneota parlayed six hits and eight walks into 10 runs in a 10-4 triumph over Lakeview on Friday at K.P. Kompelien Field in Minneota.
"We played a much more consistent game throughout the entire game," said Minneota coach Keven Larson. "We took advantage of a mistake here and there that (Lakeview) made, and we made some defensive plays when we needed them."
AJ Myhre worked the first 4 1/3 innings for the win, scattering eight hits and five walks, while striking out six. Jacob Hennen earned a save with 2 3/3 innings of relief, allowing just one run.
"Our pitching tonight was much better," said coach J.D. Pesch. "We gauge it on throwing strikes and hitting the spots our catchers framer up. Both Myhre and Hennen had a good night in that regard."
Ben Skorczewski and Jonah Gruenes each swatted a double, while Cooper VanOverbeke accounted for the other Minneota hit. Skorczewski, Josh Schuelke, Hennen and Carter Schuelke each drove in a run.
"Ben (Skorczewski) made a great play late in the game to get us out of a tough inning," said Larson. "Cooper (VanOverbeke) got the last two outs of the game by throwing two runners out at the plate from center field."
