Russell man killed in hit and run accident

Shane Alan Sanow, 50, of Russell was apparently killed from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday, March 18 while he was driving his ATV in Russell.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 11:48 p.m. on March 18 indicating that an adult male was found unresponsive within the roadway of 1st Street.

First Responders were dispatched to the scene, and upon arrival located Sanow, who was unresponsive and not breathing.

The condition of Sanow was assessed and found to have suffered severs traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Located a short distance from the scene was a four-wheel ATV that reportedly belonged to Sanow off the roadway. Investigation of the scene found debris consistent with a recent motor vehicle crash believed to be between Sanow, possibly involved the ATV, and a second unidentified motor vehicle. Investigation of this matter and to the cause of the crash and identification of the involved second motor vehicle and identification of its driver are ongoing,
