Raymond only area team still in state

The only area team still in the Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament are the Rockets from Raymond, the defending state champs.

They beat the Buckman Billygoats, 7-0 on a six-hitter by Alex Lothammer and Cole Christianson. Raymond’s Tyler Steen and Kyle Knot each homered and Steen had a pair of hits to lead the defending state champs to the win. Raymond will play Faribault at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, August 26 at Norwood in the state quarterfinals.

The Chokio Coyotes lost to New Prague, 1-0. Chokio got just three hits, but Montevideo draftee Colton Vein gave up a run in the first inning and New Prague held on for the 1-0 shutout. Alex Erickson had two hits for Chokio and Nick Hervin got the other hit. Vien fanned six but had to take the loss.

A single by New Prague’s James Fuerness knocked in Austin Bachman in the first inning for the only run of the game.’ Lamberton lost 7-1 to host Green isle with Johnny Pistulka taking the loss on the mound for Lamberton.

Tyler Fietek hit a two-run home run for Green Isle. The Milroy Irish ended their stay at state with a 6-1 loss to the Union Hill Bulldogs. Cody Mather, who got the win last week, took the loss and was knocked out in the second inning.

Ryan Rasche of Jackson and Derek Schoen of Martin County finished up on the hill for the Irish. Milroy got just six hits. Mason Schaiblegot two of them and Tyler Peterson two more. Schnailble knocked in the only run. Union Hill’s Nathan Berg had a pair of hits and Bryan Lindner knocked in two runs.

The Hadley Buttermakers also were knocked out of the tournament by the Fergus Falls Hurricanes, 4-3. Hadley trailed 4-1 after five innings but scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh to get within one, but got no closer.

Luke Drooger was the loser after four innings and Lucas Henning of Worthington finished up on the hill for the Buttermakers. Hadley had eight hits, two by max Swart and three by Chris Halbur.

Dan Revering and Jack Hiedeman each got two hits for Fergus Falls. Fairmont also fell out of the tournament with a 6-2 loss to the Buffalo Bulldogs. Brandon Alfson, a draftee from Pipestone, went five innings and took the loss.

Windom’s Collin Lovell finished up on the mound.

Tyler Tennyson had a pair of hits for Fairmont.
