No contest — girls coast to win

As exciting as the boys win over Ortonville was Monday night, well, the girls game went in the opposite direction.

Minneota, which took an early 29-6 lead — easily coasted to a 77-34 victory over Ortonville in the second game of the doubleheader in the Trojans gym.

Coach Chad Johnston didn't have much need to do his usually "roaming" along the sidelines, as he sat and watched his Vikings rip of the big lead — then coast to their 15th win of the season.

The game got so out-of-hand the scorekeeper had to invoke "running time" for the last half of the second half.

After they built a 30-point lead, Coach Johnston began inserting his bench. Madison Sorensen responded with three rebounds and Mariah Muhl came through with a bucket.

Minneota had four scorers in double figures. Morgan Hennen had a hot night and led with 19 with Lydia Sussner scoring 1 and  Lizzy Gillingham and Natalee Rolbiecki 10 each. In addition, Morgan Kockelman scored nine and Abby Hennen eight.

Sussner also had nine rebounds, three steals and block and Morgan Hennen added five rebounds, four steals and a block. Gillingham added to the rebound total with six as the Vikings out-rebounded Ortonville, 35-20.

And Minneota hit 16 of 24 free throws. Madysen Stegner led Ortonville with 12 points.

The Minneota win gave the Vikings a 15-3 season record. They host Southwest Minnesota Christian at home on Thursday.
