Mudhens routed by Morris in 9C playoffs

Taking advantage of a strong wind blowing out, Morris slugged four home runs and routed the Minneota Mudhens 11-0 in a seven-inning Region 9C elimination game Saturday afternoon as Memorial Park in Madison.
Jake Torgerson stymied the Mudhens on just two hits over seven innings, a long double to center field by Tyson Sonnenburg in the second inning and a wind-blown single by Austin Buysse in the sixth. Torgerson walked none and struck out four.
"It was a tough way to end the season," said Sonnenburg, the team's player/manager. "Hopefully next year will be a different story."
Danny Hennen started on the mound for Minneota and retired the first nine Morris hitters in order before Morris parlayed three hits, a walk and a hit batsman into three runs.
Tanner Picht led off the sixth inning with a home run to right field. With two outs, Brady Jergenson homered, the first of five consecutive hits, and Morris led 7-0.
Minneota had a runner reach as far as third base only once in the game off Torgerson. In the top of the sixth, Brock Buysse was hit by a pitch and was erased on a fielder's choice by Austin DeVlaeminck. Jake Leighton then reached on a fielder's choice with DeVlaeminck thrown out at second. Austin Buysse's high popup was dropped behind first base as Leighton scampered to third. Torgerson then got a strikeout to escape unscathed.
"The bats never got going and Morris hit the ball really well," said Sonnenburg. "It was a fun season, and we did some good things during the regular season. Hopefully we can keep building and add a few pieces next year."
Left-hander Grady Moorse pitched the seventh for the Mudhens. Mac Beyer launched a high fly that the wind carried over the left-field fence for a two-run homer. With two outs, Cade Fehr hit a two-run shot to left field to invoke the 10-run rule.
Minneota played most of the season with a short bench and a short supply of pitchers.
