Mudhens outslug Clinton, 12-6; now 5-0

There has been a bad taste in the mouths of the Minneota Mudhens since they lost last year in a one-sided game to Clinton.

"We really wanted this one bad," said Manager Tyson Sonneburg as the Mudhens defeated Clinton, 12-6 Sunday in Minneota to run their record to 6-0.

"We know we started 4-0 and that was great, but it didn't matter until today because this was the first league game of the season. And it's good to get a great start," said Sonnenburg.

"We treated it like a normal game. And what was so nice is we got contributions from everyone in the order, one to nine," said Sonneburg.

It was Sonnenburg who provided the jump start when he slamed a 323-foot home run over the centerfield fence with teammate and managing partner Beau Buysse aboard. Sonnenburg went on to collect three hits as the Mudhens banged out 17 hits and Danny Hennen pitched eight solid innings to get the win.

"It's so good to have that balance," Manager Sonnenburg said about a team that provides a lot of firepower. Jake Leighton contributed three hits, Alex Pohlen had three and Preston Nuy and Austin Buysse contributed a pair of hits apiece.

Hennen upped his record to 3-0 on the season as Bryce Gorder came on to pitch the ninth inning and put the first Land O'Ducks win in the books in 2019.

Minneota will host the Milroy Yankees at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the next game.
