Mudhens haul out the lumber; hammer Windom

Minneota hauled out the lumber and built a rather nice structure over Windom Wednesday night, 12-4.
By hammering out 20 hits the Mudhens made it easy for three pitchers to construct a seven-hit win over the Pirates.
In the process they unveiled a new pitcher, recently recruited Jamison Hunt of Canby. “We’ve been talking on and off about him joining us and he finally came aboard. He did a nice job tonight,” said Manager Tyson Sonnenburg.
Hunt, who pitched high school ball for Canby, went three innings, gave up just three hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
It came on a night after Mudhen pitcher Zach Nuy had and MRI on his shoulder. He’s contemplating surgery on the ailing arm but likely will continue to pitch this summer.
Hunt’s emergence helps bolster a pitching staff that’s taken its hits and niches. “We started the season with a lot of pitching and now we’ve come down to having to scratch away for pitchers,” added Assistant Manager Beau Buysse.
He, too, has been giving the Mudhens a shot in the arm with some nice relief pitching. Buysse went two innings gave up just one run.
Meanwhile, the outcome was never in question as the Mudhens hammered the Pirates manager and starting pitcher Nick Kulseth for five runs in the second inning for an early 6-0 lead.
They scored five more in the fourth and coasted to their 10th win in 13 starts this season.
Leading the way were five hitters with three hits apiece — Jake Leighton, Sonnenburg, Austin Buysse, Jesse Drager and Austin DeVlaeminck. In addition, DeVlaeminck knocked in four runs, Austin Buysse three and Leighton two.
Minneota, in addition to Hunt, welcomed Sam Buysse and Jaymes Moon from the high school and American Legion teams to the roster. Both got a chance to play Wednesday night.
The Mudhens will swing back into action at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at home against the Appleton A’s and will play a 2 p.m. game Sunday at Hancock.
