Mudhens foiled by Morris in 10th

In a pitcher's duel on a perfect night for baseball, the Morris Eagles outlasted the Minneota Mudhens 2-1 at K.P. Kompelien Field Friday night in Minneota.
A good crowd was on hand for Paul Larson Night. Larson, a former Minneota mayor, was a big supporter of the Mudhens. Larson passed away in 2009 and the family has given the team a donation every summer since then. Larson's widow, Wendy Larson, and daughter, Breanne (Larson) Ahrndt threw out the first pitch at Friday night's game. Both received a cooler with "Mudhens" embroidered on the side of it.
Morris scored the eventual winning run in the top of the 10th against Mudhens reliever Zach Nuy. A single, sacrifice bunt set the stage for Zach Bruns driving home the run with a single.
Minneota took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Brad Liebfried led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Brock Buysse and scored on Alex Pohlen's one-out single.
But the Mudhens were blanked the rest of the way, managing only three hits over the final seven innings.
Morris tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning off Minneota starter Danny Hennen on a two-out, run-scoring single by leadoff hitter Bryce Jergenson.
Hennen worked the first eight innings on the mound for the Mudhens, He gave up only five hits and one run, while walking none and striking out three. Nuy pitched the final two frames and absorbed the loss, allowing two hits and two walks. He fanned one.
Pohlen collected two of the six Mudhens' hits. Hennen, Liebfried, Brock Buysse (double) and Landon Rolbiecki each had one hit.
Minneota hosts the Marshall A's today (July 1) at 7:30 p.m. at Kompelien Field, then hosts the Cottonwood Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7.
