Minneota steamrolls RTR; Stassen sinks career-high
Freshman forward Ireland Stassen poured in a career-high 22 points, sinking 11 of 14 shots, to lift Minneota to an 88-63 Camden Confrence victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Thursday night at home. When a couple of Minneota starters got into foul trouble, Stassen came off the bench. “That allowed Ireland more minutes than usual and she took full advantage of it,” said Coach Chad Johnston.
“She got a lot of her looks around the basket and a few of her baskets came on fast breaks and in transition.” The Vikings (22-1) shot a sizzling 56 percent from the field en route to their eighth straight win.
“We have been shooting well and 50 percent is high, but not out of our norm,” said Johnston. “When we get as many looks in transition and rebound well, I would expect a higher shooting percentage.”
Natalee Rolbiecki dropped in 20 points and made three steals for Minneota. Abby Hennen finished with 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals; and Morgan Hennen had 16 points, six assists and four steals. McKenna Yost chipped in with five points, Jeren Rost four, and Abby Rost and Kennedi Jurrens two apiece. Minneota scored 54 points in the first half, the fourth time this season it has amassed 50-or-more points in a half.
Shawna Thomsen and Kalleigh Carr had 13 points apiece for RTR. Haley Muenchow had 11 points.
