Minneota heading to state again
Minneota will head to the Class A state tournament next week for the fourth straight year after securing another Section 3A title with a convincing 65-48 victory over Southwest Minnesota Christian Thursday night in Pipestone.
The Vikings (22-0) got 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists from Abby Hennen. Natalee Robiecki finished with 18 points and Abby Rost had 10.
Rolbiecki scored the first seven Viking points of the game, all coming on back-door cuts. But the Eagles (18-4) stayed right with the top-ranked team in Class A in the early going, leading 11-10 with eight minutes.
Rolbiecki then hit a pair of three throws to give Minneota a 12-11 advantage that sparked a 12-2 run. The Vikings never gave up the lead again after that.
Also in that run, Grace Hennen sank a pair of free throws and a nifty rebound basket, and Abby Hennen had six of her points on two free throws and two hard drives to the basket.
The Vikings led 36-23 at halftime. The Eagles could not get closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Grace Hennen finished with seven points, McKenna Yost four, Jeren Rost three, Ireland Stassen two and Kennedi Jurrens one.
Maren Nerem led SWC with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cybil VanderTop had nine points and Riley Fey had seven.
