Minneota-Canby blanks D-B twice
It was nothing but zeroes thrown by Minneota-Canby pitchers on Tuesday in a Camden Conference twinbill Tuesday at Dawson-Boyd.
After Brooklyn Nelson tossed a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory in the opener, Sydney Larson followed with a one-hitter in a 15-0 rout in the second game.
Minneota-Canby improved to 4-0 this season. Emily Pohlen's run-scoring double in the third inning drove in the game's lone run.
Kaylee Johnson had reached on a one-out single, and came around to score on Pohlen's two-bagger as Nelson out-dueled Mary Bothun.
Nelson walked none and struck out seven to improve to 2-0 this season. Minneota-Canby had four hits off Bothun, including a doubles by Pohlen and Katie Konold, and singles by Johnson and Nelson.
Bothun allowed only four hits and no walks, while fanning 11. In Game Two, Larson allowed only a fourth-inning single to Karoline Dahl.
She walked none and struck out four; also improving to 2-0. The Minneota-Canby bats came alive in the second game, amassing eight hits in the four-inning game in which the 10-run rule was invoked.
Larson led the hitting by going 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Abby Hennen went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Emily Pohlen, Brooklyn Nelson, and Audra Buysse had the other hits.
Minneota-Canby hosts Lac qui Parle Valley in a doubleheader on Thursday, hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton for two games on Friday, then plays a doubleheader against MACCRAY on Tuesday, April 29 in Raymond.
