Minneota 1-1 at Marshall Triangular Thursday night
Blake Reiss notched a pair of pins and Minneota split a triangular Thursday at Marshall on Thursday, defeating Morris Area-Hancock-Chokio-Alberta 41-26 and succumbing to Marshall/Lakeview/Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 42-26.
In the opening match against MAHACA, Minneota got pins from Reiss at 145 pounds, Peyton Gillund at 106, Jonah Gruenes at 138, and Jayden Gamrak at heavyweight.
Kade Lozinski won by technical fall at 132, while Eric Carrasco at 120 and Jackson Esping at 220 each won by decision. Branden Johnson at 152 received a forfeit.
"We continue to have guys willing to move up in weight and do things to help their team out," said Coach Matt Myrvik.
"Troy Van Keulen moved up from 106 to wrestle an undefeated wrestler and save us a team point.” "Along with that, Conner Sik and Hudson Scholten continue to show improvement, dropping two close matches that both had a chance to win."
Minneota forfeited two weights in that match.
"We really had some good hard-fought matches with MAHACA," said Coach Matt Myrvik. "We knew going in we were going to forfeit some matches with some guys out with injuries, and some of our matchups."
Marshall/Lakeview/RTR is ranked No. 6 in Class AA and the Vikings came away with a good showing against last year's state runner-up.
"We lost a few matches we thought we could have wrestled a little better in, but all in all, it was a very good dual and we look to build off it as we wind down the regular season."
In the Marshall showdown, Minneota won five matches, including pins by Reiss at 152, Conner Sik at 170 and Esping at 220.
Carrasco earned a technical fall at 113, and Gruenes won by decision at 145.
