Milroy Irish hit in the heat

It was hot, somewhat miserable  — and so were the bats of the Milroy Irish.

They were on fire in the fourth inning when the Irish scored five runs on five hits and broke up a 4-4 game to hand the Mudens a 9-4 loss Friday night.

Brady Lanoue banged out two hits and knocked in four runs and the Irish got two hits apiece from Tyoer Peterson, Brady Lanoue, Derek Riley, Anthony Dolen, Luke Doland and Ken Morris.

They racked Minneota starting pitcher Jake Leighton for 12 of those hits. Zach Nuy came on in the sixth, gave up just two more hits and no runs while striking out six and walking two.

The Mudhen bats were not silent. Jake Leighton was 2-4 with a pair of runs scored, Adam Durfee was 3-4 with three runs batted in. During the third inning, Durfee launched a two-run home run that tied the game at 4-4.

But the rest of Minneota's bats were pretty silent with Danny Hennen getting the only other hit.

Minneota is now 10-7 and don't play again until Saturday, July 7 when they travel to  Chokio for a 3 p.m. game followed by a 7 p.m. game at Ortonville.
