Pitcher Tommy Fischer tried to cover home to keep a run from scoring, but the throw was too late.

Kilowatts electrocute Mudhens

What appeared to be a strength going into the season magnified itself as a glaring problem Wednesday night for the Mudhens.
Minneota’s diminished staff looked battered and beaten as Tyson Sonnenburg and Beau Buysse tried to piece together enough arms to finish the game against Granite Falls.
Tommy Fischer proved ineffective in relief of Zach Nuy, Beau Buysse did a respectable job in relief and a usually reliable Bryce Gorder couldn’t find control at all.
In the end, Granite Falls got just six hits, but on a 9-2 game.
“It’s not the arm, that’s OK,” said Gorder. I’m not sure what happened!’ Gorder who had Tommy John surgery a couple of years ago has been “lights out” for the Mudhens. But this time he issued two walks, hit two batters and delivered four wild pitches to just four batters — without getting anyone out.
“We are getting thin on pitching,” said Assistant Manager Beau Buysse.
Manager Tyson Sonnenburg said he’s thankful Peyton Nuy has stepped up and is doing a good job of pitching.
Even Zach Nuy, who fanned seven in four innings and gave up just two hits, is dealing with a troubled arm. “It doesn’t hurt when I’m pitching, but it hurts like crazy when I’ve finished,” he said.
Wednesday the Mudhens got so far down they had to bring Jesse Drager in to pitch the final two innings.
“We’ll just have to see what happens,” said Buysse. Meanwhile, the Mudhen brain trust may be looking to the rest of the staff for pitching answers.
