JCC ousts Vikings from 3AA playoffs

It wasn't the way the Minneota/Canby softball team wanted to end the season, but the Vikings showed enough promise this year with a majority of underclassmen to give them optimism for next season.
Mady Wachal no-hit the Vikings Tuesday in Luverne in the first round of the Section 3AA tournament as No. 3-seeded Jackson County Central overwhelmed No. 6 Minneota/Canby, 16-1.
The Vikings finished the season with an 8-9 record, ending the prep careers of seniors Tessah Anhalt, AshleeAnn Frazeur, Tylee Groenhoff and Autumn Tooley.
Prior to the beginning of the season, the Vikings lost starting pitcher Madison Hennen, a freshman, to a knee injury.
Minneota/Canby scored its lone run in the third inning when Kenadi Arndt walked, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on Faith Myhre's groundout.
Wachal walked three and struck out eight in the four-inning game in which the Huskies invoked the 15-run rule.
The Vikings committed seven errors in the game, one of the downfalls of the team all season.
Brooke DeSmet started in the circle for the Vikings. Joelle Otto finished in relief.
First-round losers in the tournament are eliminated. After the first round, the tournament is played in a double-elimination format.
