Hennen scores 2,000th; Vikings rout Canby
Abby Hennen scored the 2,000th point of her career Friday night as top-seeded and unbeaten Minneota sank No. 5-seeded Canby 68-32 in the Section 3A-North semifinals in Minneota.
Hennen poured in a game-high 29 points on 12 of 25 shooting, to lead the Vikings (20-0), who have visions of a return trip to the state tournament that was cut short by the coronavirus last winter. Hennen also contributed seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Minneota will now face No. 2 Lac qui Parle Valley, a 49-32 winner over No. 3 Lakeview on Friday, on Monday in the 3A-North final. The winner of that game will meet the 3A-South champion on Thursday in the 3A championship.
Natalee Rolbiecki, who scored her 1,000th career point last week, added 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting for Minneota. She also had four rebounds and three steals. Abby Rost finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kennedi Jurrens, seeing extended playing time off the bench, chipped in five points and seven rebounds. Jeren Rost had four points and eight rebounds. McKenzie Tolk and McKenna Yost had two points apiece.
Jelen led the Lancers with 16 points, which was half her team's points.
This was Minneota's third win over Canby this season, winning the first two games by 14 and 17 points.
